Also, those looking for a gold guide may want to consider a guide that focuses strictly on earning gold opposed to mining. >> World of Warcraft Gold Guide <<

Here is a complete list of what you will need to get started mining:

1) Mining Skill.
This is obviously the most important and can be obtained by training with your local mining trainer.

These are the mining trainers and where you will find them:

  • Alliance Trainer – Dank Drizzlecut: North of Gol’bolbar Quarry in Dun Morogh.
  • Alliance Trainer – Gelman Stonehand: On the western end of Dwarven District in Stormwind
  • Alliance Trainer – Yarr Hammerstone: Eastern region of Kharanos in Dun Morogh
  • Alliance Trainer – Kurdram Stonehammer: North Auberdine area in Darkshore
  • Horde Trainer – Brek Stonehoof: Western edge of the center plateau in Thunder Bluff
  • Alliance Trainer – Matt Johnson: In the northern section of Darkshire in Duskwood
  • Horde Trainer – Makaru: Center of the valley of honor in Orgrimmar
  • Alliance Trainer – Brock Stoneseeker: Southwest part of Thelsamar in Loch Modan
  • Alliance Trainer – Geofram Bouldertoe: Ironforge, Deepmountain Mining Guild
  • Horde Trainer – South of the bridge leading to the War Quarter in Undercity

2) A mining Pick.
Of course one of the most crucial pieces of gear you will need is a mining pick, which can also be enchanted. However, its important to note enchanting a mining pick will do nothing other than add a visual glow to the item when equipped.

3) Gloves:
The best thing you can do for gloves is find the lowest price gloves and us +5 mining skill in order to get them enchanted. This wont cost you more than 2g. (highly recommended but not necessary)

Note to Engineers: While there are many ways to add +5 to your mining skill, making yourself a Goblin Mining helmet will do the trick.

Wow Mining Guide 1 – 65 (Copper mining)

It’s always a good idea to mine around 50 copper before smelt. Luckily there is an abundance of copper and you can use any of these locations to mine for it:

Copper Mining Locations:

  • Thousand Needles, Tirisfal Glades, Westfall, and Wetlands
  • Alterac Mountains
  • The Barrens
  • Ashenvale
  • Darkshore
  • Stonetalon Mountains
  • Desolace
  • Dun Morogh
  • Silverpine Forest
  • Durotar
  • Redridge Mountains
  • Duskwood
  • Mulgore
  • Elwynn Forest
  • Loch Modan
  • Hillsbrad Foothills

Horde

Tauren, Mulgore: Its best to stick to the cliffs and follow them no matter where you start. This trip will make you at leasat 40 or 50 copper and don’t forget to stop by the Venture Co mine.

Troll and Orc: Its extremely quick and easy to do entire trips of Durotar in order to get the vast amount of copper located there. However, you might find this boring, so I suggest starting at Razor Hill and moving west to Quilboar grounds. If you stay close to the cliff face you will reach a river that runs north to Orgrimmar. Moving south from there will take into a canyon. Head southeast out of the canyon to return to Razor Hill. This trip will be worth around 30 to 35 copper.

Undead: Its always a good idea to start at the entrance to Deathknell before moving south and following the cliffs to eventually reach bulwark. From there I suggest making your way north to Scarlet monastery. Once you reach the coast you can begin moving to Agamand Mills. This will make you around 35-40 copper before heading south again to return to the entrance of Deathknell.

Alliance

Night elves: Darkshore is a must as Darnassus has absolutely no ores. Begin in Auberdine and head easy to the cliffs near the edge of the map. Now begin to move south staying close to the cliffs face. This will lead you to the entrance of Ashenvale. From there move west till you hit the coast and then head north to get back to Auberdine. You can then repeat the same pattern but instead of moving south at the cliffs, go north. If you follow the cliffs you will eventually be heading south again back to Auberdine. This route should be worth around 40 to 50 copper.

Gnomes and Dwarves: Copper is more than abundant, there really is no need for a specific route

Human: If you start at Goldshire, you will be able to head east to the northern edge of Crystal Lake. Once you arrive at the logging camp you can begin to head south following the river until you hit the Elywyn forest and Duskwood border. Moving northwest from there will take you back to Goldshire. As long as you visit a couple mines along the way, this trip will make you around 35 to 40 copper.
